Welcome to the Congleton Community Healthcare Projects……

On the table are thoughts about combining the 3 GP practices, and the War Memorial into a central organisation.

The GP practices, it is proposed would maintain their independence, whilst sharing a common hospital and other core facilities, within the same or adjacent buildings.

It occurs to me the situation is similar to that of our ancestors in the 1920’s. How can we provide optimum health care with the funds available, which will benefit the majority of Congleton residents? With this in mind please submit your comments and ideas. It is hoped panel members will participate on this forum.

What does this mean for Congleton?

Primary care services in Congleton are currently provided from 3 General Practice Surgeries, two of which have limited space for expansion. Congleton War Memorial Hospital provides a range of outpatient services, diagnostic facilities and in-patient beds, but the building is old and provides limited flexibility for service development.

Plans to develop modern primary care premises bringing the three surgeries into one location, alongside community health services (district nurses, health visitors etc) and an enhanced range of clinic and diagnostic facilities are at an early stage of discussion.

A process has commenced to appoint a developer to work with the GP Practices and Community Services to explore options for relocation of services and identify the potential sites. This approach has already been successful in several other towns of Cheshire. A project steering group, involving local GPs, is being convened involving other interested parties and including patient representation.

In addition there are proposals for an 'intermediate' care service which includes in-patient beds and home-based care. This will support shorter hospital stays, or avoid unnecessary admission to an acute hospital. We are planning for more than 40 beds in Congleton, supporting a range of intermediate services (including stroke rehabilitation and palliative care).

This is a significant increase of in-patient beds in the town which will serve the borough with a focus on individualised care and maintaining independence for an increasingly ageing population.
